What are Blackheads?
We all might be familiar with blackheads. You’d be hard-pressed to find a human that hasn’t suffered from those stubborn little dots. Blackheads are a form of acne that causes tiny dark or black bumps to appear on the surface of your skin. It is mainly caused due to the accumulation of dirt and grime in your hair follicles. Oxygen turns this black when it is exposed to it. These are actually mild forms of acne that tend to cluster on your nose, cheeks, forehead, chest, and back. But don’t be fooled by their tiny size – blackheads are notoriously difficult to get rid of. Although those dark black spots may seem annoying, blackheads are a common skincare concern. It's just a mix of oil and dirt that are sitting in pores. When oxidized, they locate the oiliest pore by appearing black. But there is no reason to worry, we are here to help you banish and say goodbye to them for good! Sebum produced by your pores can cause blackheads when exposed to oxygen. During the oxidation process, sebum darkens and leaves a dark spot on the skin. But having a blackhead does not mean that skin is clogged with dirt, and acne is not a sign of poor hygiene. Even if reducing oil gets to the root of the problem, very abrasive scrubbing can damage the skin, leading to inflammation. However, they are caused by a pore-clogging recipe of sebum and dead skin cells but there are a few factors that can contribute to their development. It might surprise you to learn that pregnancy, puberty, stress, and humidity can cause a sudden influx of blackheads. Pollution, heat, humidity, and greasiness also lead to increased production of natural oils in the body, and this excess sweat causes blackheads as well. The primary culprit is pore clog accumulation, which includes dead skin cells, sebum, and even makeup.
What Causes Blackheads?
Blackheads on Nose, Blackheads on Face!!! Blackheads are annoying, clogged pores that often appear on the face and are most visible on the nose. Despite being less inflamed than other types of acne, blackheads are just as troublesome. Squeezing and popping your blackheads tends to make matters worse. They are non-inflammatory acne lesions. When follicles become clogged with dead skin cells or oil, a blackhead is a result. A skin follicle usually contains one hair and a gland that produces oil called a sebaceous gland. It may seem counterintuitive, but this oil keeps your skin soft and hydrated. It's definitely a good oil to have! From dirty phones to intense spin classes, your lifestyle and genetics can easily affect your skin.
Reasons For Blackheads:
- Dirt, Pollution, heat, humidity, and greasiness cause blackheads. The primary culprit is pore clog accumulation, which includes dead skin cells, sebum, and even makeup.
- Excessive sweating from heat, exercise, or stress can lead to open pores. Specifically, for those who sweat and work out, residue and skin grime can become backed up in pores if the skin isn’t cleaned well after the workout. There is evidence to suggest sweating while working out is healthy for the skin. This is because it can help to purge pores and boost sluggish skin metabolism, but excessive sweat is not healthy. If you’re strapped for a time after a workout, clean off excess sweat and grime fast!
- Blackheads can also be caused by blocking or covering pores with cosmetics or clothing.
- Also, haircare products can clog pores on the face. During the day, keep your hair off your face and wash your face at night while washing your hairline to prevent hair products from irritating your skin.
- Blackheads tend to be more common in oily skin types. You should avoid touching your face if you have oily skin. Remember to wipe off your phone, which collects dirt, oil, and bacteria, as it is often in contact with your face. Finally, a diet that focuses on good fats and oils, while minimizing bad fats, can be helpful.
- Stress, puberty, pregnancy, and humidity can cause a sudden influx of blackheads in the body.

How to Get Rid of Blackheads From Face?
Using acne skin care products that will help to dry excess oil and promote glowing pimple-free skin. Using a gentle exfoliating cleanser and oil-free moisturizer may also help in blackheads removal.

Use Earth Rhythm Salicylic Acid Cleanser to wash your face more than twice a day as it helps to remove impurities, unclogs pores, excess dirt, and brighten your skin. This regimen helps remove oil buildup from the day and night. A harsh cleanser or washing your face too often will dry out your skin which will stimulate an increase in natural oil production causing more blackheads. To exfoliate your face, it is important to use a gentle cleanser like Earth Rhythm Exfoliating Face Cleanser with AHA & BHA that retains skin moisture, prevents acne, and clears pores. It will result in a brighter complexion and help prevent blackheads by removing the top layer of skin cells.
2. Use Charcoal or a Clay Face Mask
Face charcoal masks help melt and loosen impacted pore clogs, remove the dirt, buildup of dead skin cells from your face. Using Earth Rhythm deep pore charcoal cleansing balm, as it helps to cleanse makeup, removes excess oil & dirt, detoxifies, and clear pores.
3. Consider a Salicylic Acid Serum
Salicylic acid counteracts impurities whilst Willow bark extract provides a soothing and healing effect. The partner in crime you need to fight blackheads, breakouts, and blemishes, Salicylic Acid Serum helps to exfoliate the skin, penetrating deep into blackhead's pores to help break up trapped dirt and sebum to prevent the formation of new blemishes.
4. Use Face Moisturizer
Use Earth Rhythm Phyto Clear Oil Free Moisturizer, which brings in all the moisture your skin needs without feeling heavy or clogging your pores. Regular use of moisturizer will help to balance the oil production while strengthening the natural moisture barrier. Slather on this oil-free facial moisturizer to keep your skin healthy, and glowing!
5. Consider SPF
Earth Rhythm Sunscreen is like armour to your skin against the sun-rays. It protects you from the harmful UVA & UVB rays of the sun. Although, it's not just the sunny days you should be worried about. Even on cloudy days, up to 80% of the sun's radiation reaches your body. That is why getting a sunscreen with SPF 50 or any other high-protection sunscreen is suggested.
